Snippet Card & Liebster Award

Good Morning,

Firstly I will share with you a card I made last night for both Pixies Crafty Workshop and Card Patterns Weekly Sketch Blog.  If you visited my blog yesterday you will recognise the polka dot paper (you can see it here).

Sorry about the background, the kitchen was the only place I could get any decent light.

Secondly I would like to thank the wonderful M of M's Cards for nominating me for the Liebster Award!!! What an amazing acknowledgement by one of my fellow bloggers.

The idea of the Liebster Blog Award is to spread the love from one small blog (under 200 followers) to other small blogs.
This helps to spread knowledge and readership.
To accept the award, you must:
1) Link back to the person who gave it and thank them for thinking of you.
2) Post the award to your blog.
3) Give the award to 5 bloggers (with less than 200 followers) that you appreciate and value.
4) Leave a comment on the blogs of the five people you have chosen to let them know.
"Liebster" in German means "dearest", so to carry on the Liebster tradition, I am going to pass the award on to 5 others who I love to visit!

The 5 blogs I have chosen are:
I hope you go and visit M and see her fabulous creations, away to go and tell my 5 nominations the news.

Wonderful

Good Afternoon,

Been a busy old day today, been into town, done some shopping, came home and have made a card! All by 3pm, that must be a record for me today.

Its that time of the week when Chrissie & Mandi set us a new challenge over at Less Is More.  This week its 'Don't Scrap It' so its time to use up all those left over scraps of paper that I seem to generate in their millions.

I got some Hobbycraft vouchers for my birthday, so bought myself from new bits and pieces for the craft room.  And the stamp on todays card is one of my new purchases.

Supplies Used
Card stock - Ivory (left over from my wedding stationary)
Card stock - white & purple (in my snippet box)
Stamp - Fiskars continuous stamp - Butterflies
Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Dusty Concord
Glossy Accents
Sentiment stamp - Whispers Words
Brads from my stash

Away out for a meal tonight with friends, so going to have to try and get my hair under control soon.  You have no idea how long it takes to make it look presentable.

More Flowers

Good Afternoon,

Hope you are all keeping well.  What a change in weather over the course of a week, last saturday is was snowing & today it has been so mild that you could go out without a jacket.  As much as it is nice to have a bit of warmer weather I am not sure it is right for this time of year!

Anyway enough of the typical British chat about the weather and onto cards.  With Mothers Day coming up I decided to play about with an adorable stamp I found and use it for a Mothers Day card (don't worry Mum this one is not for you!)

Supplies Used:
Papermania backing paper
Promarkers
Sizzix Circles Die
'Bunches' - Mos Digital Pencil Shop

Challenges Entered:
Cutie Pie Challenge Blog

If you haven't seen any of Mo Mannings digi stamps you should check them out, I just love them all.  There will be a few cards with her stamps featuring in the next few weeks.

Baby Subway Art

Good Morning,

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you a baby blanket I made for a friend of my sisters new born baby boy. (you can see it here).  Along with the blanket my sister also asked me to make her a subway art canvas.  I have made a couple of these for wedding presents but never one for a new baby.

Anyway today I thought I would share with you how I make my subway art.

I draw the size of my canvas using my Silhouette Software.  From there I can start adding in the words and images required & I know they are to scale.  Once I am happy with the layout I cut out the letters using my silhouette/craftrobo machine.

Now onto the canvas, since my sister wanted green lettering with a white background I had to start off with painting the canvas green.  I use spray paint to do this.  Spray each coat lightly and let each coat dry completely before spraying another coat.

Once you are happy with the base colour it is time to add the lettering, to do this spray the canvas with re-positional spray, this allows you to easily remove the lettering once complete.

Once all the letters are in place spray the top colour to the canvas, since the bottom colour is darker than the top colour it will take a number of coats to completely cover it.  Due to this it is very important you let each coat dry completely.

At this stage you can peel off you letters, they should peel off easily without removing any of the base paint colour.

Sometimes when you remove the lettering it does remove a little of the colour below, or the top colour has managed to get underneath the lettering.  To touch up any areas where this has happened I spray a little of my paint into the lid of the can and use either a cotton bud or paint brush to correct the areas.

Finally it is just a case of making sure the edges of the canvas matches the top colour, I do this the same way as above, spray some paint into the lid and paint until they match.

Doing a subway canvas with the dark lettering and light background is more time consuming than the opposite way round, but with a little effort it can turn out really well.

Hope this tutorial has been helpful.

Ribbons

Good Evening,

I managed to get a bulk of my wedding invitations done this evening, Jamie even helped out, I gave him the fun job of putting on some double sided sticky tape and finding my white sparkles in amongst the thousands of other colours.  But at least he can say he helped with the invitations.

Anyway time for a different type of card which I made for both Pixies Crafty Workshop and CAS-ual Fridays.  I didn't make it over to the playground with Di and the other playmates last week, so I made sure I would be joining in this week.

I have now put away all the wedding stuff and I am going to catch up on some blog hopping, can't wait to see what everybody has been up to.

Less Is More - Week 55

Good Afternoon,

Not much crafting happening in my house at the moment, just don't seem to be able to find the time to do it.  But since there is snow on the ground today, I decided I wasn't leaving the house and I was going to catch up on some crafting instead.

Chrissie & Mandi over at Less Is More have set a slightly easier challenge than last week. This week is 'Die Cut or Punches'.  Although this seems an easier challenge than last week there is so many possibilities on what to do.   In the end I decided to use my Martha Stewart Scallop punch to make my card.

Hope you are all having a nice weekend.

Stripes

Good Morning,

I can't believe its been over a week since I last posted & I haven't even really done any crafting.  However I did find time to make a couple of cards for this weeks Less Is More challenge.  This week it is time for the one layer card and the theme is 'Stripes'.  Took me a while to think up what I was going to do, but finally decided on these.

It was my birthday on Monday, so I took a lot of inspiration from the cards I received (can you guess the things I love in life).  They were not my usual style, but it was fun trying out something different.

Jamie got me the most fabulous cake for my birthday, so thought I would share with you all some pics of it.

Isn't it beautiful! and trust me it tastes as good as it looks.

I am starting on the wedding invitations this week, I am not normally a fan of making a batch of cards the same, but hopefully given they are my wedding invitations I might have a bit more enthusiasm.

Baby Blankets

Yaaaay, at long last I am showing you some pictures of the baby blankets I have been making.

Isn't the pattern on the fabric adorable?

My sister asked me to make a blanket for her friend who had recently given birth to a baby boy, she asked for something bright & childlike.  I hope this ticks both boxes.

For the second blanket I am also going to show you how I make my blankets.

To start with I cut my front fabric to the size I want the finished blanket to be, also cut your wadding to the same size.  For the backing fabric I cut this approximately 2-4 inches bigger depending on the thickness of border you want.

Lay the backing fabric wrong side up and the front fabric right side up.  Next fold the backing fabric border in half and then fold over the top of the front fabric and wadding.

Continue doing this round all 4 sides and pin in place.

Next simply top stitch round the border you have created.  I try and do this as close to the front fabric as possible but that is a personal preference.

And that's it, now I know this method wouldn't suit a lot of people, but I am able to make one of these in about 30 minutes and I personally like the end result.  If you are a beginner at sewing, I think this would be a perfect project until you gain more confidence.

Thanks for visiting.

Less Is More - Week 53

Hey again,

Having a rather productive morning so thought I would share another card to share with you all.

It is Chrissie & Mandi's 1st birthday of the Less Is More Challenge Blog! Congratulations ladies you are doing a fabulous job!

The challenge this week is Colour and they have chosen Aqua.  Now it is not a colour I tend to use too often and one of those colours that people call different names.  I had to confess that I dug out my cool aqua promarker just to make sure I was doing the right thing! Anyway this is what I came up with.

Supplies used:
Sizzix Bigz Die - Circles
Hobby craft flower stamp (stamped with ColourBox Sapphire Silk)
Promarkers - Cool Aqua
Glossy Accents (centre of the flowers, don't think it has shown up too well)
Ribbon - From my stash
Martha Stewart Daisy Border Punch

Next on my list of things to do today, is to try and decide on a wedding invitation and also start on a subway canvas! Lots to do!

Wedding Flowers

Hello everybody,

Thought I would come and show you the flowers I have tried out for my wedding flowers.  I said in a previous post that I was planning on using the Tim Holtz Tattered Floral Die to create my bouquet.  However I have a change of heart, but here is some pictures of the trial flowers.

To create the flowers, I used 4 of the large flowers, 2 of the medium and 2 of the small flowers.  I dyed them using Tim Holtz Adirondack Lights in Pink Sherbet & Raspberry.  I scrunched them up while still wet, gently unfolded them and dried them using a heat gun.  I then layered them in order of size and added either a peral or sparkle to the centre of them.  To finish them off I sprayed them with Glimmer Mist in both Iridescent Gold and Candy Apple Red.

I do really like the Tim Holtz flowers, but I found something on Pinterest that I had to try. Giant Crepe Roses (tutorial here), I thought they were very unusual and would make nice table centres. Having made one I have also decided to have one as my main bouquet.

The instructions for the roses calls for double sided crepe paper, however the only stockist I can find this on-line is charging £15 for delivery! So if anybody knows of any other stockists out there I would love it if you cold let me know.  For the trial rose I used 1 ply paper & it has turned out okay, but would like to try it with the 2 ply just to see the difference.
